Sounds like a valve was going … WebJun 25, 2024 · Recently around 5000 miles a ticking noise is coming from the engine when it is cold. it is louder when i let off on the gas and is not heard when i give it a slight amount of gas only when cold. This noise occurs for about 1 1/2 to 2 miles and when the engine warms up it goes away completely. I have used Amsoil 20w50 since the 1000 mile checkup.

Stock late TC and M8 lifters are 18538-99C, and the C stands for made CHEAPER in Mexico from around 2010 model year. These must be replaced every 30,000 miles or so, just like the lifters on an Evo. But they sure can fail a lot earlier.
